The Myles is built on the new Dr. Martens Ziggy sole, a lightweight and slip-resistant zig-zag sole that provides excellent grip. For half sizes, it is recommended to go down a size.

The new Dr. Martens Myles sandal is designed with a sturdy, lightweight zig-zag sole for all-day comfort, featuring an extra-chunky platform height. Dr. Martens has a legendary reputation, with its origins dating back to 1945 near Munich, Germany when Dr. Klaus Maertens designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole to aid in walking during his foot injury recovery. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles with air trapped within closed compartments. After showing his prototype to his friend Dr. Herbert Funck, they decided to develop and produce the shoes.

The shoe not only solved the doctor's immediate problem but also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959, they decided to expand the production and distribution of the shoes, which were then known as Dr. Maertens, to other parts of the world. Despite initial rejection from many manufacturers who saw the air-cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick, the R. Griggs Group in England decided to create the first work boot with the revolutionary sole.

On April 1, 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. The brand name was anglicized to Dr. Martens to better market the product in England, and the range was branded as AirWair. The rest, as they say, is history.
